Kozhikode's Radio Koya reminisces his icon Mohammed Rafi

Undeniably, veteran singer Mohammed Rafi is hailed as a legend since his magical voice soothed the hearts of music lovers for many generations. At Kerala's Kozhikode, Rafi's diehard fan Radio Koya recalls his admiration for his icon. He became Radio Koya because he loved Rafi's voice in radio from the age of five and boasts of huge collection of legend's memorable numbers.

Kozhikode (Kerala):The legendary singer Mohammed Rafi had influenced many with his unique voice. His magical singing has touched the hearts of music lovers of many generations and left a mark among his fans. Here in Kozhikode, his topmost fan, Koya travels through his songs on his 41st death anniversary. Koya was running a vegetable shop at Kozhikode. But later he started a radio mechanic shop and started fixing radios.

But Koya's love for Rafi's music has a deep-rooted start from his childhood. The younger Koya at the age of five started listening radio only because of Muhammed Rafi and his songs used to be broadcasted in Radio Ceylon. Later, he brought a radio of his own and also learned to fix it. Due to the affection towards the radio and Mohammed Rafi, he started a radio mechanic shop at Kallayi in Kozhikode. Thus, he earned his name Radio Koya.

Koya has a huge collection of gramophone recordings of Mohammed Rafi's songs in his house at Kulangara. His enthusiasm to listen Rafi's songs still afresh. "In my opinion, Rafi is irreplaceable which is the main reason for his songs being listened to even after 41 years of his demise", the ardent fan reasoned.
