Kerala's young calligraphy artist replicates the Quran; BBC interviews her

Fathima Shaihaba, a young calligraphy artist has replicated the Quran and people say that the lines in the holy book are replicated impeccably. The interior designing student was recently interviewed by the BBC.

Kannur:The joy Fathima Shaihaba experiences while reading lines from the Quran she replicated herself knows no bounds. Writing lines from Quran was a leisure time activity for Shaihaba initially. As she got indulged in the calligraphy intensely, her dexterity improved and the holy book was completed in one year and two months in the Usmani script.

People say that Shaihaba's calligraphy has replicated words, lines and signs from the Quran impeccably. After Shaihaba's calligraphy enthralled netizens, she was interviewed by the BBC.

While speaking to ETV Bharat, the young calligraphy artist said that she was inclined towards arts earlier also. She used to do canvas painting, wall art earlier. Replicating the Quran was a herculean task as she had to be extremely careful while writing the 'soorats' without breaking it and losing the essence, as per Shaihaba. As she regards the replicated Quran as a treasure, she is not even willing to hand over it to anyone, rather she is ready to give copies to those who demand it.

She had earlier replicated the Fatiha (first chapter of Quran), Ayathul Khursi (the most relevant and holy portion in the second chapter), and Soorathul Kausar (108th chapter). The interior designing student at a private institute in Kannur wants to pursue her passion for calligraphy along with her studies.

Shaihaba said that her family supported her immensely. "Whenever the stock of paper was finished, my father used to immediately get it for me," said Shaihaba. Her father Abdul Rahoof works abroad and her mother Nadia is a housewife. Shaihaba studied till Class 10 at Muscat Indian School.
