Kerala youngster's model EVM for first-time voters

Youngster Isahak Porur from Malappuram district in Kerala has come up with a model Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) to familiarise first-time voters.

Malappuram:Isahak Porur, a youngster in Kerala and his friends have made models of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to familiarise first-time voters as the state goes to polls in April.

The models are expected to help debutant voters cast their votes with confidence and without confusion. The models of the EVMs include candidates' names, symbols and beep lights.

The EVM models would be introduced to people prior to the poll date at different places in the State. Isahak who belongs to Kottakkunnu in Malappuram district has been into making these EVM models for quite some time now. Even before the last Assembly elections, Lok Sabha elections and by-elections, many people had reached out to him asking for model voting machines, Isahak said.

This time the EVM model machines are more advanced and on par with the originals. Similar to the original voting machines, Isahak’s machines would also display the candidates’ names and symbols in line with the serial numbers. Besides, while pressing on the button fixed against a name, a light would be emitted and a beep sound can be heard, indicating that the process of voting is complete.

Usually, orders for voting machine models are received very early. This time, with confusion in candidate selection and seat-sharing the orders were received late, he said.
