Thiruvananthapuram(Kerala):The 150-year-old campus of Kerala University in Thiruvananthapuram will for the first time have a transperson as its student, with Nadira Mehrin, a transgender person, being enrolled for a Master degree course in Political Science in the University.
Nadira Mehrin will be the first transgender student at University College Thiruvananthapuram "I aim to change the violent political atmosphere of the college, said Nadira while speaking to the reporters.
Nadira, a member AISF (All India Students' Federation) Thiruvananthapuram District Committee, was earlier credited with being the first transgender to contest for the general secretary’s post in the student union elections held at AJ College.
She had completed her under graduation in Journalism and Mass Communication.
