Wayanad: Days after a fifth standard student died of snakebite inside the classroom of a government school in Wayanad, the municipality has decided to demolish the structure, including all the classrooms. The decision was taken at an all-party meeting convened by the Sultan Bathery Municipality.
Addressing the media, Municipality chairman T.L Sabu has said that an estimate will be made and will be sent for approval. "In this compound, where such an incident took place, classes should be held at all. The all-party meet came to this conclusion that structure will be demolished and a new one will be built," he said.

The upper primary section of the school will remain closed until December 2. The high school and higher secondary sections of the institute will be open from November 26," he added.
Besides, IC Balakrishnan MLA said that it has been decided to prepare a master plan for the development activities of the school. It was also decided to extend the leave for the Upper Primary section to one week. Meanwhile, classes for the High school section and Higher secondary section will resume on Tuesday.
A 10-year-old girl died after being bitten by a snake inside her classroom at Sultan Bathery in Wayanad district, the Lok Sabha constituency of former Congress president Rahul Gandhi. The incident took place at a government vocational higher secondary school when S Shehela was attending her regular classes.
Angry students took out a protest march and demanded strict action against those responsible. "Though a teacher in the school has been suspended, that won't suffice. We demand that a case be registered and more action should be coming against teachers and medical professionals. Our dear schoolmate who died under unfortunate circumstances should get justice and we will continue our protest, till tough actions are taken," said a student leading the protest.
According to her classmates, the incident occurred at 3.10 p.m. and no action was taken by the school authorities till 3.50 p.m. Initially, the girl was taken to a private hospital in the area and then to a nearby district hospital. She was then referred to Kozhikode Medical college where she was declared brought dead.
It has provoked widespread condemnation from various quarters and stern action against teachers and medical professionals has been sought and Vijayan has assured strong action. The incident has forced Kerala government to direct all Panchayats in the state to complete pending repair work in all schools in their jurisdiction.
