Kollam (Kerala):Mathematics need not be a mundane subject of complex formulas and it could be really spiced up when ordinary people dealing with mathematical concepts in day-to-day life take a moment to teach the subject in their own simple ways. A school in Kerala's Kollam district adopted a unique way of spicing up maths lessons for their students.
In a first of its kind classroom in Kerala, Government Lower Primary School at Mylakkadu has called an auto driver named Radhakrishnapilla and a construction worker named Mohanan to teach mensuration, area, perimeter, circumference, distance and other such topics that they use in their professions.
"I am a construction worker and I explained to them about the tools and methods we use in our field. It was indeed a delight to teach the children and they were enthusiastic to learn from us," said Mohanan.
The school authorities have organised these classes in cooperation with SCERT to make this subject easier and interesting for the students.
