Kerala Prisons Department opens beauty parlour for men

Freedom brand initiatives from the jails in Kerala have been successful in providing products and services at a very reasonable rate to the general public, along with rehabilitation activities for the prison inmates. A spanking new beauty saloon is their latest venture.

Thrissur: The Kerala Prisons Department has opened yet another business, ‘Freedom Looks’ - beauty parlour catering to men and kids - at the Viyyur Jail in Thrissur district of Kerala.

After Freedom food counters, Freedom Petrol pump, Freedom sanitisers, masks, and Freedom chappals this is the next initiative from the jail that has been opened near the Viyyur Jail Park.

The services at the beauty parlour can be availed by the public between 7:30 in the morning and 9 at night. The prison inmates who have been trained passed a beautician course would be engaged in the Parlour in two shifts for the work.

A very reasonable rate would be charged for the services including haircut and shaving for men. The inmates who are good-natured and have a record of being well mannered would only be appointed for the work at the parlour.

After tasting success through the Freedom brand of products and services - through food, petrol pump, chappals, sanitisers and masks in different jails in Kerala - ‘Freedom Looks’, the beauty parlour has also been brought out by the Jail authorities.

These are beside the Freedom FM Radio channel, and the Freedom TV channel that are being operated for the entertainment of the inmates.

The Freedom Fuel station, which functions close by and the Freedom Food shop has already gained the goodwill and popularity.

Presently, another such beauty parlour for men is being operated on Karamana Road at Poojappura in Thiruvananthapuram.

Through such initiatives, the jail department aims at providing occupational training to the inmates and thereby enabling a complete rehabilitation and mental transformation in them.
