Kerala police slap POCSO on child welfare committee chairman

Police filed a POCSO case against the chairman of District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Kannur for allegedly sexually assaulting a rape victim who visited the CWC for counselling.

Kannur: A case has been registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) against the chairman of District Child Welfare Committee in Kannur, Kerala. The case was filed based on a complaint lodged by the victim.

The incident pertaining to the case had happened in October 2020.

When the victim, a survivor in another sexual assault case, reached for a counselling session, ED Joseph, the chairman of the committee allegedly misbehaved with her, according to the complaint.

The victim detailed the 'misdemeanour' and 'sexual assault' before a magistrate while recording her ‘secret statement’.

Later, Thalassery Police registered a case against Joseph. The police team led by the Thalassery Circle Inspector has begun an investigation into the case.
