According to reports, the initiative is also aimed at reinforcing the belief that motorists wearing helmets and seat belts will return home safely and avoid hefty fines following the introduction of the modified version of Motors Vehicle Act.

Packets of 'ready to make' Payasam was given to people who wore helmets while on a two-wheeler and to those people who had seat belts on.

The department took a similar initiative during Ramadan when they organized Iftar to spread the message of road safety.

The Motor Vehicles Amendment Act, approved by President Ram Nath Kovind last month, aims at stricter punishment for violation of traffic regulations. Since the implementation of the act on September 1, many traffic defaulters have been slapped with hefty penalties all over India.
