Kerala: Minor allegedly raped by shelter home director's husband

A 17-year-old girl from Kerala living in shelter home was allegedly raped by the husband of shelter home's director. A case has been registered and the probe is underway.

Kottayam: A 17-year-old girl has accused director's husband of a Kerala-based shelter home of raping her in October 2019, police said.

Police officials revealed that a complaint has been lodged and the accused, Babu Varghese is yet to be arrested.

"According to the victim's statement, the incident happened with her back in October 2019. Even though she approached trust authorities, nobody paid attention to her matter. She was in fact made to shut up. She has also revealed that the authorities tortured her mentally. However, she approached Child Welfare Committee officials who helped the victim file a complaint in the Kottayam Police Station. In fact, other girls have also put forward their tale of harassment," the cop added.

Further, after the incident, the girls have been shifted to another shelter home and the probe is underway.
