Wayanad: Maoist leader CP Jaleel who was killed in an encounter by the Kerala police in Vythiri on Thursday, was reportedly shot in the head, as per the inquest report.
According to the report, Jaleel was shot three times during the encounter, carried out by the anti-Maoist wing of the Kerala Police.
On receiving prior information, Thunderbolt force had reached the Vythiri and Pookodu areas in the forest district that has been the hotbed of Maoist activities in the state.
The Police have been monitoring Maoist influence in the region by monitoring their influence among the villagers.
According to Police, the resort where the encounter took place was under surveillance.
A group of armed Maoists approached the resort seeking food and money. They engaged in a gunfight with the Thunderbolt team, following which one Maoist leader was killed, the police said.
Following the incident, the Thunderbolt had launched a search operation and cordoned off the area. Firearms including detonators were seized from the group, the report said.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered by the Crime Branch against the Maoist group following complaint launched by the resort owner.
