'Kerala hospital served coffee from ward with Covid dead'

The incident came to light after patients recorded a video showing staff in protective suit keeping a coffee kettle and cups near the remains of a patient on a stretcher.

Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital in Kerala has ordered a probe after staff reportedly served coffee from a ward where bodies of coronavirus patients were kept.

The incident came to light after patients recorded a video showing staff in protective suit keeping a coffee kettle and cups near the remains of a patient on a stretcher.

"The body being kept near where the morning beverages were distributed cannot be justified. A report has been sought and action will be taken accordingly so that it will not be repeated," said College Superintendent Dr Sharmad.

He termed as completely wrong about reports that food was also distributed in the COVID ward next to the body which had been lying there for nearly five hours, after 10.30 AM.

"It was not the food, but tea or coffee for a few other patients that were served as some of them demanded.

However, it should not have been done and a probe has been ordered and a report sought," the Superintendent said.

The incident took place in ward number 5 of the medical college hospital.
