Ernakulam: Kerala High Court granted bail on Monday to Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) MLA MC Kamaruddin in connection with the three cases registered against him in the fashion gold jewellery investment scam.

However, Kamaruddin will have to remain in jail as there are other pending cases. The police have arrested him in as many as 85 cases.

As per the conditions mentioned by the HC while granting the bail, Kamaruddin must not enter the jurisdiction area of the police station where the case has been registered for three months and must not influence the witnesses, besides providing a bond of Rs 1 lakh.

The HC has allowed the bail considering Kamaruddin’s health condition and also because the documents related to the case have already been confiscated by the investigation team.

Kamaruddin has been in jail for the past 56 days. He had sought the High Court to allow him to attend the Assembly session and had informed the Court that he is ready to stay at the MLA Hostel in Thiruvananthapuram.

Nevertheless, the Government argued against granting bail to him citing that there are 85 cases against him and that he might influence the witnesses.

The first accused has not yet been picked yet or arrested by the Police. The Prosecution informed the Court that there are no changes in the situation and argued against permitting bail to Kamaruddin.

The High Court granted Kamaruddin bail in three cases after listening to the arguments of both sides.
