Thrissur:A doctor, who had protested against the pathetic state of the roads by stripping on a road in Thrissur District, holding up his underwear and using swear words against the State Minister and the MLA, gets suspended from service, here on Saturday.

The doctor, working with the Mulankunnathukavu Government Medical College Hospital in Thrissur district of Kerala, has got a suspension for his weird ‘way of protest’.

Dr C.V. Krishnakumar, an Assistant Professor with the Orthopaedics department of Muklankunnathukavu Medical College, was protesting against inaction on the pathetic condition of the Chavakkad - Chettuva Road. He stripped on the busy road and held up his underwear and swore the Minister and the MLA.

After speaking on the road conditions in protest by the side of the busy road, the doctor publicly removed his clothes and left his underwear on the road as a mark of protest, saying it is a ‘symbolic bribe’.

In the video, he said, there is not even a 10 metre stretch on this road without potholes. The fact that the road, which is now in a pitiable condition, was repaired hardly 6 months ago had irked the young doctor.

As the video went viral on Whatsapp, a committee chaired by the Medical College Principal conducted an enquiry in the incident and submitted the report to Dr Ramla Beevi, the District Medical Officer, Thrissur. Dr Krishnakumar was suspended after examining the enquiry report.

After the incident became controversial, Dr Krishnakumar had tendered an apology for his action to the College Principal. A six-membered committee had examined and weighed the doctor’s apology and the complaints against him before submitting the report.

Medical College Principal Dr M A Andrews submitted the report with the Directorate of Medical Education, in Thiruvananthapuram.

The doctor himself had posted the visuals of him swearing Minister Sudhakaran and K V Abdul Khader MLA on the social media platforms.

The Minister, the MLA, and many others had complained to the Police and the Medical College authorities, seeking to take action against the doctor, who already had many allegations against him, including private practice. Based on all these complaints, the Health Department has suspended him from services.
