Kerala COVID-19 patient discharged with maggot-infested sores prepares to move court

Maggot infested bedsores were found on Anil Kumar who was discharged from Thiruvananthapuram Medical College hospital in September after treatment for COVID-19. Recovering from the shock of his ordeal at hospital, Kumar is preparing to move the court against the hospital.

Thiruvananthapuram: Anil Kumar, the patient who was earlier treated for COVID 19 at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital (MCH) and was discharged with maggot-infested sores on his body, is preparing to move the court against the Hospital.

Anil Kumar, a native of Vattiyoorkavu in Thiruvananthapuram, was admitted to MCH after he fell down and injured himself. While at the hospital, he was found to have contracted COVID-19. Following this, Anil Kumar’s family were told to leave him isolated at the Hospital.

Talking to ETV Bharat, he said the hospital staff was inconsiderate and treated him with contempt. Anil Kumar said, he was not even given the consideration of being a human being and was ignored and neglected while he was sick and suffering.

He adds that he was not even provided food and drinking water properly. He said he did not meet any doctors while during his treatment. Anil Kumar also alleged that his hands were tied up during his time in hospital.

Later, after testing negative for COVID he was discharged from the Hospital. It was then that his family found maggot-infested sores on his neck back and other parts of the body.

"No one else should under such ill-treatment and suffering, he said. Anil Kumar is slowly on the path of recovery from bedsores and other ailments.
