Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala): A couple in Kerala who had gone viral earlier this year for secretly living together for 10 years at the house of the man had finally got married. Rahman, who had kept his lover Sajitha hidden in his house for 10 years, got married legally on Wednesday at Nenmara Nenmara sub-registrar office.
MLA Nenmara K. Babu congratulated the couple with a bouquet and other gifts. The couple, both from Ayyilur, Karakattuparambu, now live in a rented house in Vithanassery. Babu, also said the couple would get all support to fulfil their dream of building their own house.
Rehman was hiding his girlfriend, Sajitha in the house without the knowledge of anyone, including his own family members and managed to provide all her needs after locking her up in his small room for a decade. The entire story unfolded after he went missing from the house three months back and the family filed a man-missing case with Nemmara police station.
The story began when the woman aged 19 that time went missing in Karaikkattuparambu village near Ariyur in Nemmara of Palakkad district. After searching for her, the family filed a missing complaint with the local police. Both the police and the family gave up their search after looking for the woman for some months to no avail. Interestingly, the police had also questioned the man, aged 24 then, about the missing woman.
Both of them were neighbours in Karaikkattuparambu village and belonged to different communities. The girl's house is about 100 metres away. They did not have the courage to reveal their affair to their family members and decided to elope. The initial plan of the man was to hide her in his house for a few days and gradually reveal the matter to the family. But the ensuing financial crunch and the fear of consequences further complicated the matter.

Over time, he distanced himself from the family members and started behaving cranky so that the family members would keep a distance from him. He used to fetch food and water for her to the room daily. His family members had no clue about this other person secretly living in the house.
He also distanced himself from the neighbours and the couple adapted themselves to a life in a single room. Apart from his working hours, he used to lock himself up inside the room and the family did not question him as they were scared of his extreme behaviour. The room though had all the facilities, except an attached toilet for which the woman used a window in the room to sneak out during the nights to relieve herself. Rest of the time, the window used to be shut.
But for the local people, it was a story hard to believe. Karaikattuparambu is a backward region without many facilities and local people depended on each other very much.
