Kerala-based cine artist owns 65 vintage two-wheelers that once ruled roads

A native of Kerala's Idukki district is in the habit of collecting rare vintage two-wheelers. Anaz Koonari, who runs a pet animals and birds shop in Adimali town, has more than 65 scooters and bikes that had once ruled our roads in his vintage two-wheeler collection.

Anyone who reaches Koonari House will be awestruck at to see the rare collections of Anaz. The scooters and bikes here are preserved without losing their good old look and sheen.

A 1959 model Italian Lambretta, freshly painted and looking as good as new; Vijay Super and Bajaj which have the stories of old glory to tell; Laxmi, TVS Express and Bobby Rajdoot also feature Anaz’s collection.

The kings of the roads once upon a time — Lamby, Vespa, Chetak, Yezdi, Rajdoot — stay intact with Anaz who resides near the BSNL office in Adimali. His wish is to set up a vintage two-wheeler museum based in Munnar.

His passion for bikes and bike races led Anaz to take this less trodden path of vintage two-wheeler collection. Right from a very young age, Anaz used to collect old artefacts and antique items. Anaz still has antique television, radio and such things too in his collection besides vehicles.

Anaz, who is also a cinema and television serial artist, was active in Mud track races between the years 1993 and 2000. He has a liking for vehicles with two-stroke engines.

The first in Anaz’s collection was a Yamaha RX 100 bike. He also rents out bikes for film shootings. Anaz has all support from his family for this peculiar hobby of collecting two-wheelers from the vintage period.
