The incident took place on June 17, when 40-year-old Shaiju Thomas, injured his 54-day-old daughter Joseeta Mary Shaiju by hitting her on the head and flinging her on the bed.

The baby then went through anxious moments and a surgery was also performed on her injured head.

The baby, who was being treated at a private hospital in Angamaly earlier was shifted to Kolenchery Medical College Hospital around two weeks ago. Following the improvement in her condition, the baby was discharged from the hospital and was given a warm send-off.

The infant's mother had expressed her wish to return to Nepal, her home country. The state government would seriously consider the wish of the mother, and would also bear all expenses incurred in the baby's further treatment, said Arun Kumar.

Further medical tests and examinations would be required to see how her health status affects her natural brain development, said Dr Sojan Ipe, Medical College Superintendent, Kolenchery Medical College.

Thomas, the infant's father, is presently in judicial custody for the crime he committed. Thomas was said to be a drinker and had differences with his wife after she delivered the girl child.
