Kerala Assembly ruckus: We will continue the fight, says Ramesh Chennithala

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said that he would continue to fight till the offenders of 2015 Kerala Assembly ruckus case get due punishment. The case pertains to the violent clash inside Kerala Assembly in March 2015 when the then Finance Minister K M Mani was presenting the budget.

Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition would continue to fight till the perpetrators of Kerala Assembly ruckus case get due punishment, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said on Thursday.

He also expressed happiness over the Thiruvananthapuram Chief Judicial Magistrate Court’s verdict against the government’s plea to withdraw the Assembly mayhem case, here on Tuesday. Chennithala alleged that the present LDF government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has been justifying the ruckus created in the Assembly, back in 2015.

The State government took a stand that the case could be withdrawn on a petition filed by the former MLA V Sivankutty in the court. Chennithala had filed an intervention petition in the court against the government’s stand.

Earlier, the State government had faced a setback in the case when the CJM court dismissed a petition filed by the government seeking to withdraw the 2015 Assembly violence case.

The deputy director of prosecution informed the court that the government was ready to withdraw the case. The opposition had come out against the move of the government and filed an intervention petition against it.

Kerala Assembly had witnessed a violent clash between the legislators leading to mayhem while the then Finance Minister K M Mani was presenting the budget on March 13, 2015.

In protest and ruckus created by the then LDF opposition, the speaker’s chair was toppled and other properties were damaged causing total damage of Rs 2.5 lakh.
