Infant dies due to lack of money for treatment

A 45-day-old baby died due to lack of money for medical treatment in Kerala's Kollam district on Tuesday. With no money in hand, the infant's father requested hospital authorities to continue the treatment for free but they reportedly refused to do the same.

Kollam:An infant died in Kerala's Kollam district on Tuesday, reportedly due to lack of money for medical treatment.

The 45-day-old girl, Aditya, daughter of Vinod-Manjusha, apparently developed some respiratory distress following which she was taken to a nearby government hospital, where the doctor prescribed some medication and recommended for an X-ray.

However, unable to pay the X-ray amount, the infant's family requested the hospital authorities to do it for free and but they allegedly refused for the same.

Subsequently, the couple along with the baby returned to their home but her health condition started deteriorating by Monday evening.

The girl was then taken to a private hospital for further medical intervention but was declared brought dead by the hospital authorities.

The postmortem of the baby was done in Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and later, was buried in the backyard of their house on Tuesday night.
