Heavy rain predicted in Kerala; Red alert in Idukki

A red alert has been issued in Idukki district on Wednesday. While an Orange alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta. A yellow alert has been sounded in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam on Wednesday.

Thiruvananthapuram: Citing the influence of a low-pressure area which has developed in the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains.

Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) issued precautions and asked people to stay alert.

KSDMA also warned that the low pressure could turn into a cyclone. Southern Kerala is prone to heavy rains and strong winds.

People residing in low lying areas prone to flash floods and landslide are asked to stay alert.

A red alert has been issued in Idukki district on Wednesday. While an Orange alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta. A yellow alert has been sounded in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam on Wednesday.

The fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea from November 30 as there is a possibility of the sea becoming rough from December 1. Those who have already gone for fishing must return by November 30 midnight.

The Chief Minister said on Facebook that he had directed the Revenue and Local Government Departments to start relief camps by December 2 in case of strong winds.
