Gold smuggling case: Interpol issues Blue Corner notice against Faisal Fareed

Acting on the request of NIA, Interpol issued a Blue Corner notice against Faisal Fareed today. Interpol’s Blue Corner notice tracks persons allegedly involved in criminal activities and are suspected by the investigators to be in other countries.

Thiruvananthapuram: Interpol issues a Blue Corner notice against Faisal Fareed, the third accused in the gold smuggling through diplomatic baggage channel case, here on Saturday.

The Interpol acted upon a request from India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) which is probing the case along with the Customs.

With the issuance of Blue Corner notice, the investigation team aims to put a check on the possibility of the accused fleeing to any other country through any of the airports in the world.

This can also avoid a circumstance in which the culprit escapes to any country which has not entered into an agreement with India on handing over criminals.

The Interpol’s Blue Corner notice basically tracks persons allegedly involved in criminal activities and are suspected by the investigators to be in other countries.

The NIA court in Kochi had already issued a non-bailable warrant against Faisal Fareed. His passport has also been cancelled by India.

All these actions were part of the procedures to bring Faisal Fareed back to India with the help of Interpol. The blue corner notice has also been issued now.

The NIA sleuths had stated in the court that Faisal Fareed had forged documents to facilitate gold smuggling through the diplomatic baggage channel at Dubai.

He had also bought and sent the gold as planned through the diplomatic baggage channel at Thiruvananthapuram airport.

NIA team is hopeful that once Faizal Fareed is nabbed, brought back to India and interrogated, the possible terrorists’ link to the gold smuggling case can also be proved.
