Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala police will soon record the arrest of Swapna Suresh under the charges of using a fake degree certificate to get placed at a high position in the Space Park in Thiruvananthapuram.
Swapna is also the second accused in the case of gold smuggling through diplomatic baggage channel at the Thiruvananthapuram Airport, being probed by the National Investigation Agency and Customs. She is currently under the Customs custody for interrogation in the gold smuggling case.
After the custodial period gets over and she returns to the prison on remand, Kerala police will record her arrest. After the arrest, the police will interrogate Swapna at the prisons on getting permission from the court. If necessary, the police will seek her custody for further investigation and evidence collection.
Thiruvananthapuram Cantonment Police have registered the case against Swapna under the charges of using fake degree certificate and getting placed. The investigation will be led by Suneesh Babu, Assistant Commissioner, Cantonment Police Station, Thiruvananthapuram.
Swapna was terminated from the United Arab Emirates Consulate in Thiruvananthapuram. Soon thereafter, she was appointed as the Operations Manager, at Space Park under the State’s IT department, allegedly on recommendation from M Shivasankar, former IT secretary.
Following media reports that her degree certificate is fake, Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Limited made a formal complaint against Swapna. Swapna had got placed at the Space Park using a fake Certificate Bachelor of Commerce certificate from Maharashtra Dada Sahib Ambedkar University. However, it was later discovered that Dada Sahib Ambedkar University does not offer an Under Graduate course in Commerce.
