Thiruvananthapuram: Two persons have been taken into custody as they attempted to smuggle 160 litres of spirit in a car, by the Excise officials at Neyyattinkara Chengavila in Thiruvananthapuram, on Thursday.
The spirit was seized from the four-wheeler during vehicle inspection by the Thirupuram Excise Range at Chengavila Kurishadi Junction. Babu from Kadakampally in Thiruvananthapuram and Saddam Hussain from Injivila in Parassala, have been taken into custody.
The spirit was transported in 5 cans and loaded in the boot space, back seat of the car. According to the statement by the accused, they were transporting the spirit brought from Thiruvananthapuram to Shaiju, a native of Vettukadu.
The Excise team, including the Excise officers Shaji, Bijuraj, Shaju, Ranjith, Shan and Rajesh, led by Inspector Pramod, seized the spirit and took the accused into custody. As per the COVID protocol, both the accused will be produced before the Neyattinkara court after COVID-19 test.
