Elephant Death: Incident used to unleash hate campaigns, says Kerala CM

Irked with the attack on Kerala by the BJP leader and animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi, over the killing of an elephant, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that it is an organised hate campaign to malign the image of the state.

Thiruvananthapuram:Hate campaigns are being unleashed even by Union Ministers using false and factually wrong information, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said, condemning theconcerted attempt that is on to vilify Kerala and Malappuram district citing the tragic death of a wild elephant in Mannarkkad in Palakkad district (not in Malappuram) last week.

If it was posted based on a misunderstanding, Maneka Gandhi could have rectified the same. As she is not willing to correct herself, it is clear that the campaign based on false information is ‘a deliberate and concerted attempt’ to malign Kerala.

These attempts to derate Kerala’s self-esteem is not acceptable, the Chief Minister said. He said all efforts would be made to reduce human-animal conflict significantly.

Irked by the manner in which a deliberate, concerted attempt was being carried out by the hate mongers using this tragic incident as a tool, Kerala Chief Minister earlier on Thursday tweeted, “...Lies built upon inaccurate descriptions and half truths were employed to obliterate the truth. Some even tried to import bigotry into the narrative. Wrong priorities.”

If anyone thinks that they could undermine all the praises that Kerala has been receiving for its COVID containment efforts and can incite hate to defame Kerala, they are in a delusion, the CM said.
