Ernakulam (Kerala): Kerala government on Thursday informed the Kerala High Court that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been trying to fabricate false evidence against political leaders. They responded to the petition given by ED in the court seeking to call off two cases against ED filed by the crime branch. The crime branch team in a counter-affidavit stated that there is no legal validity in cancelling its investigation and the probe is already in its initial stage. They also informed the court that Sandeep Nair's (one of the accused in the Gold Smuggling case) statement indicates another conspiracy.
The request made by Enforcement Directorate is contradictory as they are asking to quash the FIR and, on the other side, to hand over the case to CBI. The government argued that the defendants hadn't any right to demand which agency should investigate the case. The case was filed on the basis of Swapna's statement after the ED has requested the same and it won't be wrong in registering FIR if the probe resulted to prove the crime.
