Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala): In an interesting turn of events, a prisoner in Kerala walked out of the jail not knowing a court has ordered in favour of his request to listen to a favourite song in the prison.

In his petition, the prisoner expressed his longing to listen to a particular old Malayalam song. Moved, the District Judge granted his wish ordering the prison authorities to play the song for him. But the order of the judge reached a bit late as he had already completed his jail term and left the prison.

The prisoner who was lodged at Poojapura Central Jail longed to listen to his most favourite song 'Kannum Kannum Thammil Thammil' from the 1980 Malayalam movie Angadi staring Jayan and Seema. The song was sung by K J Yesudoss and S Janaki and penned by Malayalam poet Bichu Thirumala.

So, he wrote a letter expressing his wish and posted it in the box. Instead of dropping it in the letter box meant for the jail authorities, he inadvertently dropped it in the complaints box meant to be submitted to the district judge.

The complaint box used to be brought to the district court on the seventh of every month and the grievance of the prisoners used to be screened. As usual, the complaint box was brought to the court this month also.

The court after reading his request handed over the prisoner’s letter to the jail authorities and instructed them to play the song on the prison radio.

As instructed, the prisoner's request was played in the Freedom Radio functioning in the prison. But it was revealed later that the prisoner who asked for this song had left the prison after completing his sentence.
