CPI(M) branch secretary stabbed to death in Kerala's Thrissur

Kerala CPI-M state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan condemned the brutal killing of 26-year-old P.U. Sanoop, a local party office bearer and breathed fire on the Sangh Parivar and the Congress who he alleged were behind the murder.

Thrissur:Communist Party of India (Marxist) Puthussery branch secretary PU Sanoop (26) was allegedly stabbed to death by a group of men in Kerala's Thrissur district.

The incident occurred on Sunday around 11 pm near here when Sanoop and three other party workers were attacked by a group of men with swords and knives.

As per the police, three other CPI (M) activists also sustained injuries in the attack that took place on Monday night.

"A scuffle broke out between the two groups on Monday night regarding an illegal bike race. This led to a larger clash and one person was killed. Around six people fled after the incident," a police official said.

Kerala CPI-M state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Monday condemned the brutal killing of 26-year-old local party office bearer.

"Sanoop was a very active party worker and was liked by all. He was always working among the people. Of late four CPI-M cadres have been brutally murdered by the RSS/Sangh Parivar and Congress combine. It's high time that these people lay down their swords and knives," said Balakrishnan.

The CPI(M) has alleged political rivalry as the motive behind the murder.

The police have launched a manhunt for the killers.
