COVID survivor pregnant woman gives birth to twin boys in Kerala

Amidst COVID pandemic gloom, a woman who had recovered from COVID-19 has given birth to healthy twin babies at Pariyaram Medical College hospital in Kerala's Kannur. This was the fourteenth C section being carried out at the hospital since the start of COVID pandemic.

Kannur: The young woman, who had recovered from COVID 19 pandemic which she had contracted while in her last trimester, gave birth to healthy twin babies at the Kannur Pariyaram Medical College hospital, on Saturday.

The woman’s delivery was a C section surgery performed by the doctors’ team led by Dr Ajin, Head of the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Pariyaram Government Medical College, Kannur. This was the fourteenth C section being carried out at the hospital since the start of COVID pandemic.

The doctors informed that the mother and the babies are fine. The twin boy babies weighed 2.25 kg and 2.35 kg respectively. The woman, who had sought obstetric treatment at the hospital in the month of July had conceived through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) technique.

The woman, who had returned from Sharjah during COVID times, had tested negative for COVID initially, only to turn positive later on. Thereafter, she had tested consecutively negative on RT PCR tests and was confirmed to have recovered from the pandemic.

So far, 50 pregnant women had sought medical care with Pariyaram Government Medical College Hospital in Kannur. The number of pregnant women who sought treatment at Pariyaram Hospital is a record high among the hospitals in Kerala since the COVID pandemic started gripping the State.
