Considering the surge, it is estimated that fresh Covid cases reported per day would escalate to 40,000, however, in 10 days the situation will improve. The review report in a respite stated that during these days, the cases will decline significantly. The government's estimation is based on increased inoculation. As most of the elderly above the age of 60 have received vaccines, critical conditions can be prevented.

Health infrastructure would not reel under an uptick in cases. The health department is hopeful of containment by making stringent restrictions and ramping up vaccination.

The meeting was attended by leading doctors indulged in Covid treatment, leading virologists and health experts from across the country. The state government has been criticised for the surge in Covid cases.

Currently, night curfew and weekend lockdown are in place. In addition, there are restrictions based on the weekly infection population ratio (IPR). Local bodies above IPR 7 are regulated on a ward basis.

The government has also called a meeting of the presidents and secretaries of local bodies on Friday. Ministers of health, revenue and local-self government will also be present. This meeting is to coordinate the activities ahead of the third wave.
