Ernakulam (Kerala): Ernakulam district administration has come up with a novel facility to ensure safe travel in taxi vehicles amid COVID scare. The District administration is making arrangements to separate the driver’s seat from the passenger seats in the back using fibre clear glass, so as to ensure the safety of passengers and the drivers during travel.

The driver gives hand sanitisers to the passengers before they enter his vehicle. The driver would also open the door for them to avoid any contact with the door handle.

With the specially installed panel in between, the driver and the passenger would not have to interact closely. The possibility of droplet spread can also be checked in this manner, thereby reducing the driver’s risk in contracting the infection.

Besides the driver, only two persons would be allowed to travel in taxi cars. Only the driver can use the front seat. The driver must have to wear masks and gloves.

Passengers are to sit at the back and they must wear masks throughout the journey. Air Conditioner should not be used during the journey for safety reasons.
