Thiruvananthapuram:The Central Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case of the mysterious death of the Walayar sisters. The agency has also filed two FIRs in connection with the case in the Palakkad POCSO court.
CBI has taken up the case following a High Court order. Two FIRs have been registered against four accused in the deaths of the two minors. The charges include rape, trespassing, incitement to suicide and POCSO. The mother of the Walayar sisters had asked the Chief Minister that the police investigation into the case was not satisfactory and that a CBI probe was needed. Based on this, the government left the case to the CBI and issued a notification, but the proceedings related to the case were delayed.
Following this, the girl's mother approached the high court and directed the CBI to register a case. CBI initiated further proceedings in the case and filed an FIR. There were five defendants in the case, including a minor. Defendant Pradeep, a native of Cherthala, committed suicide during the trial. The High Court granted bail to M Madhu in the case. V. Madhu and Shibu are in jail. The juvenile defendant is also in a juvenile home.
