Ernakulam:Bex Krishnan, who was spared from execution in Abu Dhabi, reached Kerala on Wednesday. He landed at Nedumbassery airport by an Etihad flight and was received by his wife Veena and son Advait. Krishnan, a native of Cheravatta village in Thrissur, was released due to the decisive intervention of Lulu Group Chairman MA Yusuff Ali, putting an end to his long wait.

He was acquitted in a case involving the death of a Sudanese boy who was hit by his vehicle while he was driving to work in Abu Dhabi's Mussafah on September 7, 2012. Abu Dhabi police filed a case against Krishnan under the charges of manslaughter on the complaint of the child's parents. He was sentenced to death in 2013 by the UAE Supreme Court following a lengthy trial.
At a time when the family's efforts to secure the release of Krishnan, who was being held in Abu Dhabi’s Al Watba prison, were unsuccessful and all hopes were dashed, businessman MA Yusuff Ali held discussions with the child’s family and was able to convince them after he proposed to pay them Rs 1 crore as compensation. Yusuff Ali filed a lawsuit in court last January to pay compensation and the boy’s family told the court they could pardon Krishnan after years of ongoing discussions and meetings.

He credited his release to businessman MA Yusuff Ali. "It was only due to MA Yusuff Ali's intervention that I was spared from execution and reached my home safely," he added. Veena also thanked the people who were involved in the release of her husband.
