Kottayam (Kerala): An 80-year-old man, Podiyan, starved to death in Kerala after he and his wife were allegedly locked in a room by their son at Mundakayam in Kottayam district.
The wife of Podiyan was said to be suffering from mental illness following which she was taken to Kottayam Medical College upon their rescue.
Podiyan, however, died on the way to the hospital.
The plight of the couple came to light when Asha workers and palliative care workers visited the area on Tuesday. The son of the couple had even tied a dog near the couple's bed in order to prevent others from helping Podiyan and his wife.
