5 contract staffers of ISRO canteen die in car-truck collision near Kerala's Alappuzha

Four of the five contract employees of ISRO canteen in Thiruvananthapuram died on the spot after their car collided with a lorry near Ambalappuzha in Kerala. The fifth victim succumbed on way to hospital. The tragedy took place on their way to attend a wedding.

Alappuzha (Kerala):At least five contract employees of ISRO canteen in Thiruvananthapuram died after their car collided with a lorry near Ambalappuzha in Alappuzha district in Kerala. Four of them died on spot while the fifth person succumbed to injuries while being taken to the hospital. The incident happened late at night on the national highway, the Ambalappuzha Police said.

According to the police, the deceased youths were identified as the contract employees working at the canteen of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Thiruvananthapuram. They were on their late-night drive on the national highway to attend a marriage function. Their car was hit by the truck coming in the opposite direction.

On receiving information, the police rushed to the spot. The lorry driver has been taken into custody. One of the five persons was found battling for life at the accident spot. Efforts to rush medical help went in vain. The fifth person also died while being taken to hospital. The mishap took place at around 1.30 am. The bodies of the deceased persons are being shifted to the mortuary at the Alappuzha Medical College for conducting post mortem.
