Karnataka mother survives suicide bid with 3 daughters; one child goes missing

A woman attempted suicide along with her three daughters aged 4, 12 and 14 by jumping into the Malaprabha River. While the adolescent children escaped from her grip while jumping, the woman plunged into the water with the four-year-old who went missing. Rescue officials are searching for the ill-fated daughter

Gadag (Karnataka): A 45-year-old woman, who attempted suicide along with her three daughters has been saved, while her four-year-old child went missing. The incident took place at Aluru Village of Rona Taluk, and search for the toddler is going on.

The woman's husband, Sangamesh Challikeri died due to Covid-19 three months ago. Depressed over her husband's death, the woman identified as Umadevi, jumped into the Malaprabha river with her children.

The woman, a mother of four, had tried to end her life with the four-year-old and two younger daughters, aged 12 and 14. However, the adolescents escaped their mother's grip as she jumped into the river. Umadevi's eldest daughter is studying in a college at Gadag.

Rona police rushed to the spot after being informed about the incident. Officials from the rescue department are searching for the child.
