The case was registered against a businessman who had arrived in Koteshwara from Mumbai on June 29. Though directed to remain in home quarantine for 14 days, the man was found roaming around.

Udupi:The Karnataka police have booked a man who had allegedly violated home-quarantine guidelines as many as 163 times and moved around freely outside.

The incident came nearly a month after the state government ordered that home-quarantine violators shall be shifted to institutional quarantine and FIRs will be filed in case of non-cooperation.

According to reports, Kundapura police have registered a case against businessman Sahib Singh, who had arrived in Koteshwara from Mumbai on June 29 and has been directed to stay under home-quarantine till July 13. But he was seen roaming around and visiting hotels in Udupi.

The police tracked his movement via his mobile GPS trackers. It was later they learned that he has breached the quarantine period 163 times. Following which, a case was registered against Singh under IPC section 269 and 270.

On Monday, the state government announced that a nine-day lockdown in Bengaluru (comprising of BBMP, Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts) would be imposed from July 14 (Tuesday) to help contain a surge in COVID-19 cases. This lockdown will continue till 5 am of July 22 and the BS Yediyurappa-led government has imposed strict guidelines for this period.

With 2,738 new COVID-19 cases reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, the count of cases has reached 41,581. According to the bulletin released by state health department, the maximum number of cases have been reported from Bengaluru Urban, followed by Yadagiri and Mysuru.
