The curious case of tiger deaths in K'taka

Mysore: The state of Karnataka has lost three of its tigers in the last 10 days in a suspected case of poisoning, but the forest department reportedly remains unaware of the circumstances.

According to reports, a tiger was found dead in suspicious circumstances near the Bheemanakatte backwaters of Periyapatna taluk in Mysore.

Just a week ago, another tiger was found dead in Moolehole range in Bandipur Tiger reserve. However, the forest department has linked the death to a territorial fight rather than poisoning.

Recently one young tiger was rescued from a snare, near a tribal relocation camp adjoining Nagarhole.

Reports have linked the deaths to starvation, however, forest officials have stated the tigers fed on a pig, hours before being found dead.
