SC stays Karnataka HC order of granting bail to anti-CAA protesters

The apex court has put a stay on a Karnataka HC's order that granted bail to 21 anti-CAA protesters. Most of the protesters involved in the matter belonged to the Popular Front of India, whom SG Tushar Mehta accused of attacking the police.

New Delhi: A Supreme Court bench comprising of CJI SA Bobde, Justice BR Gavai and Justice Surya Kant, on Thursday stayed a Karnataka High Court order that granted bail to 21 anti-CAA protesters.

The apex court also issued a notice to the accused on the Special Leave Petition filed by the Karnataka government against granting of bail in a case where a police station was burned in Mangalore during Anti CAA protests.

Most of the protesters involved in the matter belonged to the Popular Front of India, whom SG Tushar Mehta accused of attacking the police.

It is to be noted that these protesters were arrested by police after being identifies by a CCTV footage. The Karnataka High Court had on February 19 granted them bail because of the lack of evidence.
