Retired IAS officer and Congress leader Zameer Pasha passes away

Zammer Pasha was involved in implementing the recommendations of the Sachar Commission in Karnataka and also served as Managing Director of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation and Secretary of the Minority Welfare Department.

Banglore (Karnataka): Retired IAS officer and Congress leader Syed Zameer Pasha (67) passed away at his residence in Bengaluru on Wednesday evening.

The bureaucrat-turned politician held senior positions in various departments of the Karnataka government.

He served as Managing Director of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, Secretary of the Minority Welfare Department and was involved in implementing the recommendations of the Sachar Commission in Karnataka.

He entered politicals after his retirement and unsuccessfully contested the 2018 Assembly elections from Kolar on Congress ticket.

In June 2012, just before his retirement, raids were conducted at his residence and it was alleged that Pasha had amassed more wealth than his known sources of income.

In August 2019, acting on a plea by Zameer Pasha, the supreme court issued a notice to Karnataka government challenging the validity of the High Court’s order rejecting his plea for discharge in a disproportionate assets case.

Pasha hailed form Mangri village near Banglore and is survived by a daughter and son and was very popular among masses.
