Bengaluru (Karnataka): Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday emphasised on the 'double engine' government formula in the initial two rallies in Karnataka. He is slated to participate in six public meetings and two roadshows during his two-day visit to the election-bound state.

Speaking at Vijayapura the Prime Minister said that the BJP government has prioritised every class such as poor, Dalit, destitute, and disabled. The double-engine government has worked for the food, and shelter of the poor, he said. In an attack aimed at the Congress he said that the party can never work for Dalits and backwards since it never understood the teachings of Lord Basavanna and has always opposed Babasaheb Ambedkar.

The Congress has only looted the poor, he said adding that the party diverted funds meant for development to middlemen and ignored the plight of the farmers. Women and daughters of the state suffered a lot under the Congress government, he said.

Earlier in Bidar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the May 10 state assembly election is not about 'winning' but to make Karnataka the 'number 1' state in the country. Addressing a public meeting at Karnataka's Bidar, the Prime Minister said that the state can only develop when all its parts are developed.

This election will decide the role of the people of Karnataka in making their state the most developed in the country, he said putting emphasis on the 'double engine' growth formula that is often highlighted by the BJP during state election campaigns.

In an all-out attack against Congress, he said that the grand old party will never understand the struggle and pain of the poor. Congress slowed the pace of houses in Karnataka, he alleged. On the other hand, the BJP gave women ownership of houses, he claimed. The state has suffered a lot at the hands of the Congress party, he said because the party only engaged in appeasement politics and cares about seats, instead of the people of Karnataka. Congress has stalled development in the state, he mentioned.

Continuing with his comparison with the Congress regime in the state earlier, Modi said that foreign investment has increased thrice in the state under the BJP rule compared to that in the Congress regime. Harping on the 'double-engine' analogy, he said that currently Karnataka is witnessing 'double development' with 'double speed'. On the other hand, the Congress had only made fake promises to the farmers and people of Karnataka, he said.

According to his itinerary, following his address at Vijayapura the Prime Minister would fly to Kudachi in Belagavi district where he will address people at about 2.45 pm. Later, PM Modi would fly to Bengaluru in the evening to hold a road show in Bengaluru North. After staying in Bengaluru, he would then depart from Raj Bhavan on Sunday morning to fly to Kolar where he will address a public meeting at 11.30 am.

From Kolar, the Prime Minister would then fly to Channapatna in Ramanagara district to address a public meeting at 1.30 pm. Modi would then go to the temple town of Belur in Hassan district where he will address people at 3.45 pm. The Prime Minister's next destination will be Mysuru the same evening, where he will hold a roadshow. After the event, he would fly from Mysuru to Delhi by a special aircraft. This is Modi's ninth visit to poll-bound Karnataka this year since February where Assembly elections to 224 seats are due on May 10.
