NCB seizes marijuana worth Rs 21 crore, 3 held in Bengaluru

Officers from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Bangalore Zone have arrested three inter-state drug peddlers who were transporting marijuana to Maharashtra through Hyderabad in a lorry. Officials seized 3,400 kg of marijuana worth Rs 21 crore.

Bengaluru:Three accused who were transporting marijuana to Maharashtra through Hyderabad in a lorry were arrested on Sunday by the authorities. The three inter-state drug peddlers were arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Bangalore Zone Officers.

Officials seized 3,400 kg of marijuana worth Rs 21 crore. The officials were acting on a tip-off by drug case detainees.

Largest operation in NCB history

In June last year, the NCB had carried out operations and confiscated 2,000 kg of marijuana worth Rs 15 crore and arrested four accused based in Maharashtra. The confiscation of 3,400 kg of marijuana worth Rs 21 crore is said to be the largest operation in NBC history.

Drugs hidden in saplings

To alleviate suspension, the accused covered the marijuana with saplings. They also placed packets of marijuana in sacks and filled them with mud. The seized lorry is registered in Maharashtra.

Officials confirmed that the accused were trafficking marijuana to various places including Pune, Thane and Mumbai.

The accused were selling marijuana not only in Maharashtra but also in Sri Lanka, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
