Mysore: Karnataka police recorded statements of the Mysuru gang-rape victim's male friend, who was allegedly assaulted during the incident. The youth narrated horrifying incident to police and said that six miscreants, between the age of 25 and 30 allegedly committed the heinous crime.

“On August 24, my girlfriend and I finished class and went on a bike near the water tank road in front of JSS Ayurvedic College at around 7.25 pm to 7.30 pm. It was always the place where I would go on the promenade. But on that day, about six people, 25 to 30 years old, came to that spot after we stopped the bike. They came from the right side and we were attacked by a wooden log," he said to police.

"After assaulting, he pushed me and dragged my girlfriend to the bushes. Another one hit on my forehead with a stone. Then I fell unconscious and after 15 minutes I woke up. After that, the four stood in front of me and were forced me to call my father. Also, we were bullied to pay Rs 3 lakhs. At that time I asked, 'where is my girlfriend?'. Then the two men pulled her up and sat beside me. She was severely hurt and depressed. The injuries were found all over her," victim's friend told the police.

Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai said, "The state police chief has been entrusted with the task of investigating the rape case and arrest the culprits and solve the case as soon as possible. I did not get information about the status of the case that is under investigation. I have instructed them to file the status report. A special team has already been formed to investigate the case. DGP went to Mysore and I have asked them to crack the case faster" he added.

Home Minister Araga Jnanendra said, "A police investigation is underway to nab the culprits. The girl is under medical care at a hospital. Security will be tightened further to ensure the protection of all, especially women".

Prameela Naidu, chairperson of State Women's Commission, visited the crime spot. "The police said that they have gathered 34 evidences in connection with the gangrape case. The investigation is going on. Suo moto case has been registered in the Women's Commission. This is an act of shame and such kind of acts should not take place. Chief Minister Bommai has directed the accused to be harshly punished," she said.

The National Commission for Women took suo moto cognizance of gang rape and pointed out that no accused has been arrested in the case yet. NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma wrote to the Director-General of Police, Karnataka urging him to take stringent action against the accused.

A young woman along with her male friend was allegedly assaulted by a gang of miscreants during their visit to Chamundi hills in Mysuru on Tuesday. The woman was allegedly gang-raped and the duo was hospitalized. Police were informed that the accused were inebriated. Beer bottles were found on the spot and police were to examine CCTV footages of wine shops in the vicinity of Chamundi hills, as per sources.
