Mysuru: A sexual misconduct case has been filed against bishop KA William, the seventh bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Mysore, on Thursday. The bishop is allegedly accused of criminal activities, sexual misconduct, and misappropriation of funds.
Thirty-seven catholic priests from different parishes of Mysuru Diocese have requested Pope Francis – the head of Catholic Church at the Vatican – to remove the bishop of Mysore KA William on charges of marriage, parenthood, sexual liaisons and corruption.
A group called the Association of Concerned Catholics (AOCC), Mumbai has filed a complaint on behalf of the victim.
Mysuru bishop accused of sexual misconduct AOCC member Robert Rosario has also presented a video, accusing bishop William of sexual misconduct.
In the video, the woman claimed that she had been working with the family commission from 2013 to 2018 when she has had a bad experience during bishop's administration.
Based on the video, a case has been registered in Mysuru's Lashkar police station.
What's in the video?
In the video, the victim allegedly said that after William took charge as Bishop in 2017, she had a bad experience during his administration.
She said, "I used to submit a daily report of the fieldwork I do. Once, when I went to submit the report, Father Leslie Morris was gazing at me lustfully."
"I was called to be in office after my fieldwork at 6 pm or 8 pm on the pretext of submitting a field report to him (Leslie Morris), "she added.
She alleged that bishop William supported the priest.
"When I went to him (Bishop William), he started scolding and verbally abused me," she added.
She further added, "Father Leslie approached me directly for sex. He said if I compromise, I can continue my job. I decided to quit my job thereafter in May 2018."
The woman alleged that Williams got his men threatened to endanger the lives of her 2-year-old child and her husband.
Bishop Denies
Bishop William said that the allegations of corruption and sexual assault against him are baseless and he is ready to face investigation.
"The allegations are baseless, I have not misused money. Also, the allegation by the lady is nothing but baseless. I am ready to face them legally and I am ready for investigation," said William.
Several priests have levelled serious allegations against William who is the bishop of Catholic Diocese of Mysore. The allegations are in connection with indulging in corruption and sexual misconduct.
Complaint reaches Vatican
Thirty-seven catholic priests from different parishes of Mysuru Diocese have requested Pope Francis – the Vicar of the Catholic faith at the Vatican – to remove the bishop William on charges of marriage, parenthood, sexual liaisons and corruption.
The letter to Pope Francis which is the possession of GoaChronicle.com accuses bishop William of being married to a woman who is working as a staff in the Organization for the Development of People (ODP), Mysore.
In the letter, the priests, detailing their allegations against bishop William said that the woman was previously married and had a daughter with her first husband.
The main allegation is that the Bishop had a relationship with a woman and had a child with him. The woman’s husband has left her because of the illicit affair with the bishop, the letter read.
The FIR is yet to be filed, and further investigation is underway.
According to sources, AOCC leader Robert has had a case against him previously for spreading communal hatred during the assembly elections in May.
