Mangaluru (Karnataka): Three fishermen died and another six went missing after their boat capsized in deep sea, some 43 nautical miles (80 km) off the Mangaluru port. The incident took place at around 2.30 am on Tuesday.

Of the total 14 fishermen, five have been rescued. The Indian Coast Guards have undertaken a search and rescue operation to trace the six fishermen via ship and aircraft. According to some sources, a large ship collided with this boat, owned by a Kozhikode-based person. However, ETV Bharat could not independently verify this.

The 14 men in the boat began their fishing expedition from Kerala and were en route to Mangaluru.

It may be recalled that in December 2018, a fishing boat from Udupi had gone missing. Its wreckage was found some 33 km west-south-west off the coast of Malvan in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra four months later. This was the first such incident recorded in coastal Karnataka.
