Loud boom heard across eastern Bengaluru, source not yet known

Bengaluru (Karnataka): In a strange development, a loud booming noise was heard across eastern Bengaluru on Wednesday, but the police said they were not sure where it originated from.

According to reports, the loud noise was hard all across the eatern part of the city - from the international airport, through Kalyan Nagar, MG Road, Marathahalli, Whitefield, Sarjapur, Electronic City, to Hebbagodi.

However, no damage was reported from anywhere, said commissioner Bhaskar Rao.

"We also got the information from the media. No calls have been made to 100 till now regarding any damage. We have also asked the Air Force Control Room to check if this was a flight or supersonic sound," he said, adding that the police was waiting for the Air Force's reply.

Further, the possibility of the sound originating from an earthquake was also written off, as an official from the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre (KSNDMC) said the seismometers did not capture any strange activity.

The seismometers did not capture any ground vibration as it generally happens during a mild Tremor, the official said.
