Davangere:Locals of Gullu Belludi village in Karnataka's Davanagere district have been allegedly receiving plastic rice mixed with rice distributed by the Anganwadi. Children, pregnant women and lactating mothers are the beneficiaries of the scheme.

Fuming villagers with the rice sample reached Nirmala, the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of Harihara taluk, she explained to the villagers that the rice which they are getting are vitamin-fortified rice.

Nirmala explained "It is not plastic rice but vitamin fortified rice. Rice supplied by food center reaches Anganwadi centres. After that, 50 grams of vitamin-fortified rice get mixed with 1 kg of rice. However, I will send the sample of rice to the Shimoga lab to clear the villagers' doubts. The same rice has been distributed in many villages of Harihara taluk and the pregnant women and lactating mothers who consumed this rice are fine now. They did not suffer any health issues".
