Mangaluru (Karnataka):Delivering provocative hatred statements are on the rise in the country and the government agencies seemingly do not act despite complaints from civil society.

Recently, two such cases of hatemongering have come to light in Karnataka where the leader of Vishwa Hindu Parishad Sharan Pumpwell in Ullal Town of Dakshina Kannada District openly threatened Muslims and Minister of Panchayatraj K.S. Eshwarapa also made a controversial statement calling for violence.

BJP Senior leader and Panchayat Raj Minister, K.S Eshwarappa addressing a Workshop for BJP members, said that “If someone attacks a BJP worker, we have instructed them to hit back with the same stick. We cannot remain silent.”

“Given the growing strength of BJP and RSS across the country, party activists are encouraged to hit back with the same force and give it in double to our opponents,” KS Eshwarappa further said.

Members of the Social Democratic Party of India have submitted a memorandum with the Police Department urging for action against K.S Eshwarappa but no action has been taken so far.

In another case, wherein VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell has issued a threat to the Muslim community calling for violence. While addressing a press conference in Ullal Town of Dakshina Kannada District, Sharan warned Muslim leaders, "I am giving a straightforward warning to those involved in 'love jihad' activities and supporting it and helping these 'anti-social elements. This must be stopped immediately. We will be protesting against these incidents and if this continues, in the future, it will result in protests, or even a fight or clash. For all the incidents in the future, the Muslim community will be responsible for it”.

About 14 social organizations led by advocate Maitri had submitted a memorandum with the Additional DGP urging for action against Sharan Pumpwell but there has been no action in the matter.

In this regard, Welfare Party Karnataka President advocate Tahir Hussain demanded stringent action against those spreading hatred and appealed to the minorities to be patient and said that the judiciary should be sought to resolve such issues. Tahir Hussain said, the BJP is carrying out the agenda of spreading hatred for its political gains disturbing peace and communal harmony in the country.
