Amit Shah will conduct aerial survey today in Belagavi

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will conduct an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas of Belagavi district in Karnataka.

Shah will reach Belagavi at 2.30 pm and conduct an aerial survey of flood-prone areas in the district. Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa will also accompany him.

After conducting the aerial survey, Yeddyurappa will meet senior officials in the presence of Shah at 4.30 pm at Sambra Airport in Belagavi.

Speaking to media, Rear Admiral Mahesh Singh NM, Flag Officer Commanding Karnataka Naval Area, said, "Navy has deployed 8 relief teams and 2 helicopters in Belagavi and Uttar Kannada district. The teams have so far managed to rescue nearly 2,200 people. As of yesterday evening, waters have started receding."

Bengaluru: With no let-up in the rains, the flood situation in Karnataka remained grim on Saturday as most of the rivers in the state were in spate.

So far 27 people have died in flood and rain-related incidents in the state.

The chief minister had on Friday announced a compensation of Rs five lakh each to the families of those killed in the flood and rain-related incidents. As an instant relief, the finance department has released Rs 100 crore towards flood relief.

Rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas are in full swing as the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), Indian Navy and State Civil Defence QRT(Quick Reaction Team) have been deployed in Karnataka.
