Karnataka: Seven police officers suspended after attempt to close marijuana case

Karnataka's Hubballi Police Commissioner Labhu Ram ordered the suspension of seven police officers. The officers allegedly tried to close a case involving seizure of marijuana without filing FIR and accepting bribe.

Hubballi:Seven police officers were suspended by Karnataka's Hubballi Police Commissioner Labhu Ram for allegedly accepting bribe and attempting to close a case involving the seizure of one and a half kilogram of marijuana. Suspended police officers include Inspector Vishwanath Chowgale, Assistant Sub Inspector Kariyappa Gowda, Nagaraja, Shivaraja Kumar Metri of APMC Navanagar Police Station, constable Vikram Patil and two other constables.

Acting on a tip-off from a local, police conducted raid, detained two miscreants and seized one and a half kilogram of marijuana. However, no case was registered and the miscreants were released after taking bribe from them. As per the allegation, police sealed the marijuana they seized.

Police Commissioner Labhu Ram had directed Deputy Commissioner of Police K Ramarajan to conduct a probe into the matter. Based on a report submitted by the DCP, the commissioner suspended seven police officers.
